PSEO Phase 1 - Analysis
Analysis of Personal Brand / Digital Footprint
This is the first post in our personal SEO experiment. Having been involved in recruitment and technology for over 15 years I was expecting there to be some digital footprint already online about me. You can follow along and use your own results as a bench mark as I look to improve the visibility of my own professional profile information online. I do not really mind that there is likely to be some personal / social information online as well, I just want to make sure my professional information comes first.
I am going to base my initial analysis on the three major search engines, Google, Yahoo and MSN. In each of these I am going to establish how much information is available about me. This analysis will then form the foundation for improving my personal brand online by using personal Search Engine Optimisation (PSEO) techniques.
I’ll update the analysis on the PSEO experiment page found on my home page so you can follow along.
My initial searches reveal that I have some work to do! John Lilley is an american singer song writer, John Lilley races motor bikes, John Lilley is a wedding photographer, John Lilley has something to do with Balfour college / university in the US. Competition for my name is fierce, and I thought I was one of a kind!!!
Yahoo is the only search engine to have any results for me in the Top 10, when I search on John Lilley. Across Google, Yahoo and MSN I only have 8 references in the Top 50 search results. Considering I have done no Search Engine Optimisation at all this is hardly surprising and probably similar to results many of you will find.
Stay tuned for the next installment!
